Gifting Membership

Are you looking for the option to allow people to gift memberships?  For example, you offer an excellent resource for $10/month and you know people who would be willing to pay for a membership for others for a period of time.  Well, this is what you're looking for then.  Let's get started.   

Enabling Gift Memberships

You can enable this gifting feature in any of your paid individual membership tiers.  You will find a check box available under the pricing and plans area to select if this can be gifted or not.  This is off by default so you'll need to select if you want to show this option.



Purchasing a Gift

Once you have turned this on, your constituents will see in your membership tiers the option to join with text below inviting them to gift this for someone else.  The person wanting to gift this subscription would select "Give as a gift".



This will take them to a page where they can select the period of time for the gift and enter their recipient's information.  


The person gifting the membership can optionally enter a personal message for the person they are gifting this membership to that will show up in the invite email. 



The giftor will be shown a gift purchase confirmation page outlining the gift, the cost, the recipient, and their information.   



The person receiving the gift will receive the following email alerting them of the gift, displaying the personal message, and a visible link for claiming their gift.  



Once the individual receiving the gift completes the process for accepting the gift they will see a success page displaying their personal information and the date range of their gift.  They can enter their own payment information at any point to continue the membership past the point of the gift.  The recipient will not be charged on their own until the full time span of the gift has expired.  

NOTE: The person receiving the gift will have access to membership from the point of accepting their gift through the end of the gifted time period.  When this time expires, the person receiving the gift will either no longer have access to your community OR they will need to update their own account information with their personal payment information to continue access.  



Additionally, the person gifting the membership will also receive an email alert letting them know that the person (when they do) has accepted the gift and claimed it.  They person receiving the gift must fully claim the gift, not simply read the email.  



Managing Gifts

Each gifted membership will be logged in your membership portal under the title Gifts.  Here you can view/search all gifts: who gifted the membership, who was the recipient, membership gift, order number (clickable), price, notation if claimed or not, and the Actions drop down.  



 The actions drop down allows you (as the admin) to view the order confirmation or issue a refund.  



Your Gifting Strategy

Gifting memberships can be an extremely beneficial option for your community.  This allows you the ability expand the reach of your memberships and to run marketing campaigns to help build greater awareness of your resources.  We encourage you to run campaigns to your current members to encourage them to gift a membership to others.
